Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines self-defense, acrobatics, dance, music, community, and culture. Over the past 500 years it has evolved from a secret fighting practice into an art emphasizing self-expression and community celebration.

Capoeira classes are led by Instrutora Água-viva (Jen Hobbs) supervised by Contramestre Fenix of Grupo Candeias Seattle. She has been teaching youth and adult Capoeira classes in West Seattle since 2016, and has been studying the art of Capoeira for over 16 years.

Instrutora Água-viva has spent nearly 20 years studying various movement practices and continues to attend educational events and workshops. She spent several years working as a PreK gymnastics coach and has taught various fitness classes in gyms and in private training.

For Capoeira she travels to Brazil and to other locations around the world each year to participate in Capoeira events, competitions, and workshops.

Jen has a passion for working with kids and families and enjoys teaches in local schools and summer camps.
